Bright and Colorful, But Not Too Much!

4 Jul

You don’t have to be afraid of bright colors! This home demonstrates perfectly how to use color to transform a space without it overwhelming the space. I love all the white with pops of color. However, those pops of color are continuous throughout as to not shock the senses and create flow.

The other things I truly love is the way the space combines modern and traditional. I recently had a conversation with a young professional just starting out in her first apartment. The apartment is in an adorable historic building in downtown Richmond yet she said she didn’t like it because she likes modern design and her apartment had crown moldings. Umm, really?!? I politely encouraged her to mix her modern furniture and decor with that lovely historic backdrop in all white and bam…Modern! Hopefully she takes my advice and embraces her lovely space.
Hope you enjoy your holiday weekend! Until next time…

Color of the Year! Pink…Haven’t I been saying this for awhile?

23 Feb

Not to sound boastful but I had to laugh when Pantone declared “Honeysuckle” the color of the year. Yep pink is hot and the blogosphere  has been on that trend for years. Of course it makes “Pink” no less the color of the year. House Beautiful’s March 2011 cover drives the trend home with the perfect pink rooms and even gives us the coveted wall colors of the rooms featured!

My Christmas Decor 2010!

14 Dec

Finally, my camera is working and I can post my Christmas decorations. There have been some little changes from last year, but I think they have made a big difference! First change, I have added burlap ribbon to my “woodland” tree. It really makes the silver and white ornaments stand out. A cheap and easy way to fill up the tree too!

Next change, I added soft pillows of fake snow throughout the tree to really make it full and “winter wonderland” like.

I was so excited to decorate this year because I now have a banister! I hung “wood shaving wreaths” along the banister in addition to garland, more burlap ribbon, and silver ornaments.

The full picture, a wonderfully traditional “winter woodland” theme. Oh yeah, I also wrapped my gifts in brown paper with white ribbon. No way red and green snowman paper was going under this tree!

Then on to the table, I used different size glass vases, my favorite aqua candles, a silver tray, and some fake snow. It was fast and easy.

I went to my favorite antique store and picked up a few silver bowls and vintage ornaments. This really adds some “time-loved” appeal to my decor. I love this shot!

Then my favorite, my pink and white Christmas tree. The greatest addition, the white spirally balls (see above) that sparkle pink and white in the tree and add a ton of whimsy fun.

My favorite ornament, one my Mom made from vintage doilies.

and you can’t forget Paris!

To top it off, another “white spirally ball” (don’t know what to call them really but they are cute!).

Another bowl of ornaments.

Finally, the big picture. A wonderfully “girly” tree below a map of Paris and beside a clean white linen chair. Truly a lovely setting. Don’t miss the white ceramic urn that finishes off the tree.

Project #2 The Living Room Transformation

10 Jun

So here is the before, shortly after we moved in. Still messy, but as you can see I could wait to put up the curtains!

The color scheme all started with my new pink silk curtains (as seen above) and this fabulous antique rug I picked up at an antique auction. This is probably my favorite thing in the house right now!

Then I ventured on to my favorite website Etsy. You can see in a previous post (click here) I mentioned my upcoming art project. Well here it is. I purchased these prints from “Little BlueBird Studios” and framed them with Ikea frames.

Then I added another Etsy purchase from “Finding Fabulous” (love that name), my antique door plates. I am in love with these!

So here it is, the wide view. What do you think?

A couple of new pillow for the sofa, of course.

And as I mentioned before, it doesn’t take me long to change my mantel around. It has changed already. Well now on to another project. This is fun!

Awesome Inspiration from CotedeTexas

27 May

This fabric is stunningly beautiful. I love how they used so much of it, not being afraid of overwhelming the room. This was truly the right move. Complimenting the fabric with solid fabrics elsewhere breaks-up all the pattern. A truly inspiring design.

Another beautiful pattern, this time on wallpaper. I love powder rooms with punch!

The opposite of pattern, this room is full of solid neutrals with luxe textures. A breath of fresh air.

Thanks CotedeTexas for all the inspiration today!

I continue my Pink and Gray obsession!

14 Mar

I am in love with this map art from “Velvet and Linen”. The subtle pink in these maps matched with the neutral walls and gray ottoman make this room relaxing and so chic! I am also loving the brass chandelier and picture lights. Looks like brass is back (and you can quote me on that)! As you know, I am in love with the pink and gray combination. See more images below of the lovely color combo and be inspired.

“Pink and Grey”

4 May

So I am loving Kim Kardashian’s Kentucky Derby hat. But out of all the hats I have seen this year, no one has done it like Jessica Simpson did a few years back with her beautiful dress and perfect pink hat (oh and Nick Lachey be her side)! Both of these ladies have great style, and while looking at these two pictures side by side, I was inspired to do a “pink and grey” post. This is my favorite color combination right now! So hope you enjoy all the pink and grey digs, fashion, dessert, and even nature.

Even God likes pink and grey, ain’t that COOL!

Fabulous Wedding!

28 Apr

I love a great “before and after”, and since wedding season in upon us, I thought I would show you this fabulous wedding “before and after”. This is for all you girls out there who have lost hope in your chosen wedding venue because of the upsightly mess that it is. There is hope after all. Just a little creative spirit and your wedding can look as great as this one. Trust me I know, I have been there!

The perfect mix of traditional and modern!

27 Apr

I am in love with this dining room featured on Papillon Linens blog. The design group id 810 Design group created a room to suit the husband’s modern taste (the table) with traditional elements (the chairs) for the wife’s tastes. The chandeliers are a perfect mix of both styles, a traditional shape but stylized interpretation. I really love the easy tablescape made of simple beach elements. The room in designed just enough, not over done, just right! Oh, yeah and I kinda dig the pink chairs.

I dream in pink!

5 Mar

When I was younger, my mom filled my room with pink everything. I rebelled from pink for awhile, but for the past few years I have come to my senses and realized that my mom was right all along. I dream in pink!

I could just sit in this pink chair for forever!

This is the perfect pale pink.

I flipped over this french settee when I saw it. What I wouldn’t give for that thing.

I have this pink Ikea vase in my living room. It is the first thing my eye is drawn to when I walk in the door. It welcomes me home every day.

I would love to have a bathroom filled with glass jars of pink soaps and bath salts.

I heart pink and white!
